How it fits

It runs the factory, not a second copy of everything.

Manufacturing owns BOMs, routings, plans, orders and costs. Products and stock stay in Inventory, machines in Assets, people in HR and journals in Finance.

What it will do

Plan it, make it, check it, cost it.

One record from the bill of materials to the finished goods receipt — for the planner, the supervisor, the operator and the cost accountant.

01Engineering

BOMs and routings

Single and multi-level BOMs with versions, scrap allowance, substitutes, recipes, co- and by-products, and routings on work centers.

02Planning

MRP that explains itself

Demand from sales, forecasts and reorder points, exploded through every BOM level into planned orders, requisitions and transfers.

03Shop floor

Big buttons, no typing

Operators start, pause and complete, report good and rejected quantities and log downtime on a tablet or kiosk.

04Quality

Inspect, hold, decide

Quality plans, inspections, non-conformance and dispositions, with full lot and serial genealogy.

05Costing

Standard vs actual

Material, labour, machine, overhead and scrap — with variances split by price and usage.

Orders that finish

From planned to closed, with quality in the middle.

A production order moves through clear states with approvals where you want them. A failed inspection never slips through — it becomes a decision.

Beyond the order

Trace it, schedule it, keep the machines honest.

The tools around production that turn a factory floor into numbers you can trust.

TraceabilityForward and backward lot and serial genealogy, from raw material to the customer — and recall when needed.
Capacity & scheduleScheduled versus available hours per work center, with conflict detection.
SubcontractingSend material to a supplier, receive the finished operation back, through Purchasing.
Downtime & OEEMachine stops with reasons, maintenance requests to Assets, and OEE when the data is reliable.
AI assistanceExplains delays and shortages, spots scrap trends, drafts work instructions — never changes data itself.

The maths, written down

  • Net requirement = demand − available − incoming + safety stock, then exploded level by level
  • Component quantity × planned output × (1 + scrap %), rounded up to the unit of measure
  • Order start worked backwards from the due date over setup, run, queue and move times
  • OEE = availability × performance × quality — shown only when machine data covers the shift

FAQ

Manufacturing, asked and answered

Ask us something else
What will Manufacturing do?

Manufacturing will plan, make and cost what you produce: BOMs and routings, MRP, production and work orders, a touch-friendly shop floor, quality and lot tracing. Inventory keeps the stock and Finance keeps the books.

Is Manufacturing available yet?

Not yet. Manufacturing is a new WorkSuite app; its specification is out for review and delivery runs in five phases, each one usable on its own, starting with plants, work centers, BOMs, routings and manual orders.

Does it handle multi-level bills of materials?

Yes. Single and multi-level BOMs with versions, scrap allowance, substitutes, recipes, co- and by-products, and routings on work centers, with engineering change control to move to a new version.

How does MRP work?

Demand from sales, forecasts and reorder points is exploded through every BOM level into planned orders, requisitions and transfers. Net requirement is demand minus available minus incoming, plus safety stock.

What do operators use on the shop floor?

A touch-first screen on a tablet, kiosk or phone browser, with big buttons and no typing. Operators start, pause and complete work, report good and rejected quantities, log downtime and scan the QR on the traveller to open an order.

How is quality handled?

Quality plans, inspections, holds, non-conformance reports and dispositions such as rework or scrap. A failed inspection never slips through — it becomes a decision — and lots and serials keep a full genealogy for tracing and recall.

Does Manufacturing keep its own stock?

No. Products and stock stay in Inventory. Reserve, issue, return, receive and scrap are requests Inventory validates and executes, so there is no second copy of the stock.

How are costs and variances worked out?

Standard and actual cost are collected for material, labour, machine, overhead and scrap, with variances split by price and usage. Manufacturing publishes costing events; Finance chooses the accounts and posts the journals.

Can it work with several plants and subcontractors?

Every record carries its organization and plant, and transfers between plants are supported. Subcontracting sends material to a supplier and receives the finished operation back through Purchasing.

Can I try Manufacturing before buying?

Not on the live demo yet: Manufacturing is in development and marked coming next. Book a demo at /contact/?kind=demo and we will show where it stands and when it is planned.

Is Manufacturing available in the cloud and self-hosted?

WorkSuite runs as WorkSuite One Cloud, hosted for you, or on your own server. On the Cloud, the business apps come with WorkSuite Business; on your own server, pricing depends on server size and the apps you choose, so ask us which plan fits.

Can I use Manufacturing on a phone or from the desktop?

WorkSuite runs in the browser on desktop, tablet and phone with nothing to install. WorkSuite Desktop is also available for Windows, macOS and Linux and can point at the Cloud or at your own server.
