Directory

Directory is the shape of the organisation itself: the companies, the units inside them, the groups people belong to, and the list everybody can look through to find a colleague.

Before you start

  • A decision on how many companies you are actually running — most other modules scope to it.

What Directory does

The shape of the organization itself.

01

Set up organisations, units and profiles

This is the structure the rest of the suite hangs off: an employee belongs to a unit, and a great deal of what people may see is decided by which company they are in.

02

Put people into groups

Groups are how a set of people is addressed at once — in permissions, in chat mentions, in announcements. Build them around what people do rather than where they sit.

03

Let everyone use the directory

The directory is the one part of HR that is meant to be open. It answers "who is that and what do they do" without exposing anything that belongs in the employment record.

What it claims to do

The capability list this guide is written against, unabridged. Nothing above adds to it.

Where it connects

The modules Directory hands work to, or takes it from. Most problems that look like one module are a handover between two.
